How to become a model in Europe
You become a model in Europe by taking three simple, unedited photos, applying to a legitimate scouting programme that charges no fee at any stage, and getting shortlisted for an in-person meeting or a remote review. No professional portfolio, agency signing fee or paid workshop is ever required to get started — if something asks you to pay before you have been placed, it is not a legitimate route in.
What scouts actually look for
Scouts are not looking for a finished portfolio; they are looking for how someone reads in a photo and in person. That means natural photos over styled ones, and a real sense of height, proportions and how a face holds up without filters. Meridia's contest rules set out the eligibility in full: adults aged 18 to 26, open to the 27 EU countries, the UK, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and the Western Balkans.
Apply the right way — step by step
Take three honest photos
Face, waist-up, full length. Daylight, a plain wall, no filters, no heavy make-up. A phone camera is enough — see preparing your first casting photos for the full walkthrough.
Apply online, for free
Send the photos through the agency's own application form. A legitimate casting never asks for payment, banking details or private photographs to apply.
Meet the scouts
Shortlisted candidates are invited to a short in-person meeting — or a remote one when travel is not possible — for digitals and a conversation, still free.
How to avoid modelling scams
The clearest sign of a scam is a request for money: an "application fee", a "photo package", a paid workshop, or an upfront modelling-school course. Legitimate agencies and contests are paid by clients and brands once a model works — never by the candidate. Check that the organiser names a real legal entity, publishes a privacy policy, and only ever contacts you from its official domain. Meridia's own entity and terms are on the about page. How to apply to Meridia (no fees)
Meridia runs a free, season-long scouting contest across twelve European casting days, decided at a final in Paris. Applying online takes a few minutes, costs nothing, and every application is reviewed by the scouting team.
Questions people ask before applying
Do I need modelling experience to apply?
No. Most people who apply have never modelled before. What matters is the photos and meeting the eligibility criteria.
Is there an age limit?
Yes: applicants must be adults aged 18 to 26. Meridia works with adults only.
Will anyone ever ask me to pay?
No, not at any stage. If someone asks for money in Meridia's name, it is not us — report it to contact@meridiamodels.com.
